I helped a friend out with an Iron Chef Mushroom competition at his church, and discovered that you can indeed make a mushroom dessert

. Pictures speak a thousand words, and I'm quite pleased with how our presentation turned out, even though some of the dishes could have used some improvement in the taste category:
Appetizer: Fried Won-tons with a Shiitake Mushroom, Celery and Sausage Filling(the dipping sauces are just vinegar, soy sauce, and a mixture of
vinegar and soy sauce, since we didn't have time to make a decent
sauce...we probably should have just brought some store-bought sweet
chili dipping sauce

)
Main Dish: Portobella Mushroom, Chicken and Spinach Enchiladas with a Tomatillo Sauce and Fresco Cheese, Portabella Salsa with Homemade Tortilla Chips
(the salsa and chips were yummy, I would probably make that again; we
couldn't quite get the tortillas to roll without breaking, but then
again, I don't think either of us made enchiladas before)

and what you've all been waiting for...
Dessert: Sauteed Pears in a Candy Cap (Mushroom) Carmelized Sauce with Candy Cap Dentelles(so yes, there is a mushroom you can use to make dessert! They are called
candy cap mushrooms and are actually native to our region. I used them while sauteeing the pears, and they also infused the caramel sauce and whipped cream. Some ground up candy caps went into the lace-like dentelles, which I know why I never tried to make before: they were hard, but well-worth the effort)
